ISLAMABAD: Bagh Stallions, the sixth franchise of Kashmir Premier League (KPL) has started its sports journey with the new franchise owners signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the owners of the league. The signing ceremony took place on April 22, 2021, Thursday at the Bagh Stallions office in Islamabad, between KPL CEO, Mr. Chaudhry Shahzad Akhtar and co-owners of Bagh Stallions, Mr. Chaudhry Hameed and Mr. Tauqeer Sultan Awan, Chairman Bagh Stallions. KPL Director Cricket Operations, Mr. Taimoor Khan, was present to witness the signing.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Hameed said, “Kashmir has a special place in the heart for every Kashmiri and Pakistani regardless where they may be. I am overwhelmed to be part of this historic step towards overall progress and support for cricket in the region.” Mr. Awan endorsed the fact that Bagh Stallions and KPL represent more than just an investment in the sporting culture but also promises to galvanize societal growth in Bagh and Kashmir as a whole.
Mr. Akhtar noted, “We are honored to have progressive-minded owners who have taken the mission of bringing hope and prosperity for all Kashmiris through sports. I welcome them whole-heartedly!” Mr. Taimoor Khan, Director Cricket Operations KPL, echoed the sentiment and added, “Having such owners is in the best interest of both cricket and the whole region.” Mr. Arif Malik, President KPL, who wasn’t able to attend in person, sent his support and best wishes for the franchise in a recorded video message.
A note on the Bagh Stallions franchise owners:
Mr. Hameed is a Mirpur born businessman with ties in the UK and across the Kashmiri and Pakistani diaspora across the globe.
Mr. Awan is an established businessman who has led several pioneering businesses in last few decades in Pakistan, including its first private airline.
